About the Team

The Welding Department is a core element of the RDA Production team and will be based at our new Military Vehicle Centre of Excellence (MILVECO) facility in Redbank, Queensland. Our team has the important task of building high quality Armoured Steel systems for the Boxer vehicles.

About the role

You will be responsible for supervising the overall design and manufacturing process of armoured steel welded assemblies to ensure that the manufactured product satisfies all internal and external requirements. The Welding Engineer will provide expert guidance in welding technology, development of welding procedures and production plans as well as responsibility for ensuring weld quality and reducing welding defects. You will initially travel to Germany for 4-6 weeks of training and may be required to travel overseas as required.

As the Welding Engineer you can anticipate some of your day-to-day tasks to include:

  • Supervise the design and manufacturing processes of armoured steel welded assemblies
  • Ensure the product meets both internal and external standards
  • Plan, document, and manage Work Instructions, Procedures, and Process Control Plans for armoured steel welded assemblies. 
  • Complete the verification of welded module drawings against standards, tolerances, welding process and technical feasibility
  • Manage the Welding team's qualification and arrange / plan the relevant welding approvals with external parties.

The experience and skillset best suited to this role includes:  

Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering;

  • International Specialist Welding Engineer (IWE) certification;
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience as a Specialist Welding Engineer.
  • Demonstrated experience and application of current NDT techniques and standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret specifications and technical drawings of complex structural components with advanced GD&T.
  • Proficient with current 3D measurement techniques including scanning technologies, CMM, and the ability to interpret measurement reports against drawings.
  • Lean Manufacturing experience including proven ability with Root Cause Analysis Techniques.
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal communication, consultation and leadership skills.
  • Be eligible for an Australian Government Security Clearance and have the capacity to satisfy pre-employment screening.
