Woomera Test Range, located around 500 kms north of Adelaide, provides Australian Defence with a self-reliant capability for conducting test, evaluation and research activities. Woomera Test Range is developing new infrastructure and acquiring new state-of-the-art systems to provide next generation capability that will meet Defence’s current and future testing and evaluation requirements. The design and development of systems is complete, installation and testing of systems at Woomera will start very soon. During this important phase of the project, an exciting opportunity for an APS 6 Technical Specialist has become available.

 

The position is based at RAAF Base Edinburgh, however, travel to remote locations including Woomera is required for some periods. Flexible work arrangements will be accommodated and NV1 security clearance is required for this position. In this role, you will work within a small team to support capability development projects for Air Force Ranges Directorate. The successful candidate will possess knowledge and expertise of typical Test and Evaluation Range systems including radar and optical tracking, communication and network, cameras and display, meteorological and telemetry systems, and planning, simulation and data analysis tools. Knowledge of T&E range operations and support system contract will be an added advantage. An Associate Diploma in Engineering and relevant experience will be required for this position.

 

Duties of the position are:

  • Accountable for supporting project activities in Capability Development;
  • Build relationship with stakeholders including Military, APS and contractors on regular basis;
  • Review project documentation including project plans and reports;
  • Review contractor developed test plans, test procedures and test reports;
  • Contribute to the development of the OT&E Plans and conduct of test activities at Woomera;
  • Provide SME input/advice to contractors & stakeholders including responding to request for information (RFI);
  • Participate in regular project working group meetings on system safety, system security, verification and validation, support system, training and external interfaces;
  • Work closely with Air Force Ranges Test Squadron (AFTRSQN) members to ensure new capability is adopted smoothly by it;
  • Provide support to AFTRSQN during conduct of test and evaluation trial activities;
  • Develop domain knowledge of range mission system and its external interfaces; and
  • Provide support to AFRD HQ Capability Assurance for Support System contract.
