Naval Group Australia has one singular focus – to design and build 12 state-of-the-art submarines for our country.

As we continue this undertaking, we are now looking for a Systems Engineering Manager to live and work in France for a 3 year period before transferring back to Australia.

The Systems Engineering Manager will contribute to the deployment of systems engineering activities of the program in conjunction with the design leads and transverse specialists. This role requires a high degree of collaboration and engagement with a wide range of design stakeholders.

This role is also intended to transfer systems engineering knowledge and design experience from France to Australia. Consequently, the Systems Engineering Manager is expected to leverage this knowledge when they return to Australia to establish and manage their own team of systems engineers.

The successful applicants must be eligible to obtain Australian Defence Security Clearance NV1 and French Defence Clearance. These roles will be based in Cherbourg, France for approximately 3-4 years and then in Adelaide, South Australia.

Responsibilities & specific focus:

  • Learn, understand and apply Naval Group systems engineering processes, methods and tools.
  • Define or contribute towards requirements management, system architecting and interface management plans, processes and tools and use these plans to control and monitor assigned activities.
  • Establish a deep operational and functional understanding of submarine platform systems and subsystems.
  • Work closely with the design leads to elicit functions and constraints, and to validate requirements for each system of interest.
  • Define the context of a system from a range of viewpoints including system boundaries and external interfaces, and to derive requirements by analysing beyond the boundary of the system of interest.
  • Work with transverse specialists to derive discipline specific requirements.

Qualifications & experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience and demonstrated knowledge with developing and delivering engineering designs to meet stakeholder needs, ideally in a Defence industry context.
  • Tertiary degree or equivalent discipline in Engineering (essential).
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team of engineers.
  • Demonstrated experience in an industrial environment, ideally in the fields of submarine and shipbuilding.
  • Experience with IBM DOORS and graphical system modelling tools such as System Architect and MagicDraw.

Naval Group value diversity and we value our people. After all, their talents and expertise are driving forces behind the success we enjoy around the world today. Applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged.

Naval Group Australia only considers applications submitted directly by candidates. Naval Group Australia will not accept or consider any applications from recruiters or recruitment agencies for this position.
