Due to ongoing growth and expansion, we are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join us in overseeing and delivering the SMART Metro Development Programme.

The SMART Metro programme is MTM’s Digital Transformation programme, it is an inward facing programme aimed at employees. The vision for SMART Metro is to make employees work life easier providing technology tools/apps to enable them to better succeed in their core roles.

Your new role:

  • The SMART Metro Senior Software Engineer will be expected to work closely with the Enterprise Systems lead to agree the approach for SMART Metro Development;
  • Liaise with professional and technical staff regarding setting up appropriate hardware, software and operating system environments, carry out integration tasks, perform data configuration, as well as complex problem resolution;
  • Conduct a variety tasks across the Software Development Lifecycle with real time, reporting systems and mobile technologies;
  • Complete development using Javascript, Java and associated technologies in a mixed Windows, Mac and Linux Environment;
  • Carry out complex software implementation tasks, as well as periods of technical validation activities;
  • Carry out the upgrade and enhancement of various existing Systems as well as conduct maintenance investigation and defect rectification, as well as assist with validation activities if required;
  • Self-driven and demonstrate skills in driving the product development, identifying issues, independently or collaboratively achieving the required outcomes;
  • Utilise analytical, conceptual and problem solving skills in a rail environment;
  • Work in an Agile environment;
  • Design and implement features to meet quality standards and agreed timeframes and liaise with Stakeholders as needed;
  • Adhere to and support compliance with all legislative and regulatory requirements and MTM policies and procedures;
  • Seek continuous improvement in our safety practices and implement the Corporate Safety Plan;
  • Contribute to a culture where all accidents, incidents are reported, recorded, investigated and corrective action undertaken;
  • Contribute to the stewardship for key risk categories and objectives;
  • Recognise and optimise the benefits of workplace health and wellness;

About you:

  • Tertiary studies with an suitable IT or engineering discipline (5+years)
  • Tertiary or industry experience in Software Engineering (7+ years);
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting a variety tasks across the SDLC;
  • Demonstrated experience in working in an Agile environment
  • Proficient in web application development both in client-side Javascript and server side business logic.
  • Experience in AngularJS and Cordova (although not mandatory);
  • 5 to 10 years’ experience in Java 8 development and associated technologies ;
  • Desirable experience with Amazon Web Services (although not mandatory);
  • Experience in delivering solutions to iOS, Android platforms
  • Demonstrated experience developing mobile apps and/or workflow
  • Proficient in working in a Linux Environment;
  • Proficient in SQL;
  • Experienced in working with real time, mission critical systems;
  • Proven capability to self-lead software development activities and produce high quality software solutions and documentation;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to: articulate clearly, for both technical and business people, what a particular problem is; coordinate the efforts of a number of people, to achieve resolutions to problems; and work as an effective part of a diverse team;
