Our Operation

One of Australia’s largest mines and a complex minerals processing operation, Olympic Dam, is unique in that we produce Copper, Uranium, Gold and Silver. The local township of Roxby Downs is an active and progressive community offering a variety of modern, well equipped housing, educational, health, sporting, leisure, shopping and cultural facilities.

Please note this position is based at Olympic Dam, operating on a 5/2 residential, or 5/2/4/3 FIFO (from Adelaide) roster.  BHP will support relocation if required.

About the role

Working in our Fixed Plant Maintenance Reliability Team, this role will coordinate and assist in the development, deployment, and continuous improvement of fixed plant maintenance work management strategies for the Olympic Dam Mine Operation. Establishing and maintaining relationships with the maintenance, production and engineering teams will be critical to ensure success in this role.

In this role you will:

  • Be first and foremost focused on creating a culture of care by being a visible safety leader.
  • Demonstrate safety leadership by supporting the Field Leadership program to leading/coach continuous safety improvement and performance
  • Coordinate activities of Reliability team members based on business priorities
  • Build team capability through targeted exposure to different equipment and tasks
  • Ensure compliance to work plans and statutory and legislative requirements 
  • Provide organisational governance in the application of 1SAP processes and promote understanding and compliance to 1SAP principles
  • Perform detailed analysis of conditioning monitoring data, initiates maintenance strategies and/or changes to strategies to address emerging risks 
  • Analyse life of plant, equipment and infrastructure and determine equipment capability assumptions based on the 2 year Production plan and provides input into the development of the capital budget for the area 
  • Perform detailed analysis of end-to-end work processes, master data, work instructions and organisational design to identify inefficiencies in work execution and coordinates opportunities for improved business outcomes
  • Initiate root cause analysis and “failure type” reviews (e.g.5 Whys, FMECA) of plant, equipment and non-process infrastructure based on no compliance to planned availability or unpredicted failures
  • Initiate and approves Master Data requests for an area an Operation / area of accountability. 
  • Update maintenance procedures, work instructions and control systems coding  
  • Validate work plans are in place for critical controls and monitors the effectiveness of the plans
  • Initiate engineering requests (via 1SAP work management) on behalf of the Maintenance function to improve equipment safety and reliability, and ensures ownership of the same until completion
  • Analyse performance metrics and benchmarks performance across the function in other BHP businesses

About You

  • Tertiary engineering qualification, electrical or mechanical preferred.
  • Previous experience in a senior role ideally, with business improvement initiatives
  • Problem solving and risk management skills
  • Ability to influence, engage with & communicate effectively across multiple levels, business units and functional areas
  • Demonstrate the confidence to lead by example, hold yourself and others accountable and coach others in ‘Safety Leadership’
  • Ability to develop credibility across multiple levels and stakeholder groups
  • Inclusive team player that is proactive, self-driven and accountable
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Confident to coach, lead and initiate change
