We have a fantastic career opportunity for a Senior Drill and Blast Engineer to really hone their skills. Successful delivery of this role creates the opportunity of the incumbent to progress through to superintendent status.

Our current senior drill and blast engineer is looking to guide and pass on a wealth of knowledge, ensuring the continual success of the drill and blast operations at Wilpinjong.

We are currently seeking a Senior Mining Engineer - Drill and Blast to join our Wilpinjong mine. Our Wilpinjong mine is a low strip ratio open-cut mine located 58 kilometres northeast of the historic and country charm of the City of Mudgee, producing a high quality thermal coal for export with long term contracts for the domestic market. Wilpinjong is a multi-seam operation utilising truck / excavator and dozer push methods and currently producing 12 - 14mtpa of coal.

Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, the scope of your role will be to manage the engineering for Drill and Blast. You will be required to actively engage with key stakeholders to communicate the schedule and designs to ensure production processes are optimised in order to continuously improve operational efficiencies.

You will be challenged technically in a dynamic environmentblasting multiple waste and coal horizons and developing skills to meet environmental conditions in the pursuit of, production performances, environmental compliance and your own development. You will be rewarded with a collaborative relationship with production and an environment where fresh ideas and change is embraced.

Over the course of the next 12 months, we will be moving into some more challenging mining environments, providing some great opportunities during that mentoring period to develop and then showcase your technical blast design skills.

We are looking for someone who is striving to continually develop their skills, engaging with the drilling and blasting crews to collaborate and excel.

You will also have the opportunity to continue developing technical skills for; Dozer Push, Truck/Shovel, rehabilitation and mine planning.

This position is offered on a Monday to Friday roster with one rostered day off per month and can allow for a residential lifestyle in Mudgee or surrounding towns.

About you:

This role would suit a degree qualified Mining Engineer who is either experienced in Drill & Blast or looking for their next stage of their development:

  • Mining Engineering degree or substantial drill and blast experience in operations
  • Minimum 2 years of mining experience
  • Experience in blasting (well regarded), in either OC or U/G and Coal or Metal
  • Proficient experience in drill and blast software (Vulcan and BlastLogic highly regarded)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Drive for continuous personal and professional development is required
