We are now seeking a motivated Senior Underground Geotechnical Engineer to join the COOi Mining and Technical Team based in Perth (or alternatively Johannesburg - South Africa or Belo Horizonte - Brazil)Reporting to the Manager: Geotechnical Underground, this role is responsible for actively supporting geotechnical aspects of all of the AGA Underground operations; focusing on the development and implementation of geotechnical systems aligned with the strategic view of AGA.
The main tasks of the role include but are not limited to:
Provide site based support during short term secondments.
Develop and implement geotechnical systems in line with the strategic view of AGA, including data collection / interpretation systems, strategic design options and specific project requirements.
Ensure personal compliance with company safety requirements and assist in developing and implementing improved work practices to reduce the risk of injury and improve productivity.
Review and communicate work practices to reduce the risk of injury from geotechnical hazards and monitor that all work activities and plans comply with relevant regulations for the Underground operations.
Timely validation and interpretation of geotechnical data, through ongoing data collection and evaluation.
Provide meaningful input and revisions to the Underground Ground Control Management Plan.
Assist with the training and mentoring of junior geotechnical engineers to enhance site based geotechnical skills.
Liaison with Mining Departments, Mine Planning team, Mine Geology Department and the mining contractor.
Monthly reporting to the Manager: Geotechnical Underground
The ideal candidate will possess:
Degree in geotechnical, mining engineering or equivalent.
Demonstrated 8-10+ years' experience in a mining-based role in the Underground Mine environment (experience in open pits would be advantageous).
Demonstrated ability to work without supervision and be a creative self-starter.
Commitment to safety, quality and teamwork.
An understanding of the mine planning process from long term to short term.
Technical knowledge with a focus on structural geology and open stope/rock mechanics, backfill and mine seismology.
Exposure to drill hole data base systems such as Datashed and Acquire
Demonstrated ability to use specialise geotechnical hardware and software, including Map3D, Basrock software and Leapfrog.
Demonstrated ability to develop and train personnel in the use of operational geotechnical systems.
Good English written and verbal skills with a high level of attention to detail. Communication skills in Spanish / Portuguese would be advantageous.
Ability and willingness to travel to AGA's underground operations for short term secondments.
Have existing and ongoing working rights for based country.
A National Police Clearance for based country.
