ABB Australia currently has an opportunity for a Senior Applications Engineer to join our team, primarily responsible for executing assigned engineering activities associated with Control Systems and other associated system engineering activities within the Industrial Automation Business. 

Your responsibilities

  • Ensuring projects are delivered within the boundaries of the specified project schedules. 
  • Assisting engineering team in building standard and custom solutions for customers efficiently, cost-effectively, and in accordance contract specifications, quality standards and safety requirements.
  • Using drawing packages to design electrical drawings
  • Providing technical engineering expertise to meet the requirements of Control System upgrade projects, system expansions, or Service Offerings.
  • Providing process control improvement concepts through innovative thinking and process knowledge.
  • Maintaining excellent customer relationships and focus on lifting customer satisfaction.
  • Coaches less experienced designers on the translation of conceptual designs to engineering documentation, including drawings and calculations. May manage a small team of Engineers on a project.
  • Due to the nature of the work, including site commissioning and start up demands, and the international nature of these industries, short periods of domestic and international travel will be required.

Your background

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Process Engineering, or similar field. 
  • More than 5 years’ experience in multi-disciplinary electrical, automation and Control projects/service role, working with ABB 800xA Control System. 
  • Sound knowledge of engineering techniques, processes and tools, including but not limited to 800xA, Power Management Systems, Modbus Communication and Networking. 
  • Advanced computer skills including SAP knowledge or experience, Microsoft Office and MS Project, etc.
  • Strong commitment to safe work practices and dedication to following all relevant workplace safety guidelines. 
  • A high level of self-motivation, curiosity and desire to learn about new technologies. 
  • A collaborative approach to working, demonstrating strong communication and leadership skills.
