You will lead and shape research into advanced microwave radar systems enabling Defence to achieve enhanced detection and identification of targets.  You will consider current and future increasingly challenging targets in complex and contested environments.

You will manage work on S&T program activities or other collaborative arrangements where multiple technologies, project complexity or international considerations require broad and experienced oversight and representation. Based on your experience you will provide advice on the best scientific method to achieve Defence outcomes and report those outcomes to the client representatives, the wider scientific community and to your Research Leader. You will create a motivating and collaborative team culture that promotes a shared sense of purpose and invites all the team to make an effective contribution toward high impact outputs. You will provide your team with professional developmental opportunities to sustain the quality of output and maintain essential scientific and technical capabilities. This includes reviewing the scientific quality of reports and publications prepared by the staff.  You will have a national or international reputation, specialised knowledge and considerable experience in the field of microwave radar systems which will enable you to forecast future Defence needs and understand the opportunities S&T can provide in meeting these needs. Your client focus will enable you to understand their priorities and balance the client delivery program with long term, underpinning research and development. As a collaborator, you will foster collaborative arrangements with industry, universities and international organisations and create opportunities for your team to work cooperatively with other teams on interconnecting projects.
