Boeing Defense Australia (BDA) is currently recruiting for a Propulsion System Integrity (PSI) Engineer for the in-service support of the Royal Australian Air Force fleet of P-8 Poseidon Aircraft. As a PSI Engineer embedded with the Surveillance and Response Systems Program Office (SRSPO) P-8A Sustainment Program (P8SP), you will:

Overview

  • Lead the continued airworthiness elements of the P-8A Propulsion System Integrity (PSI) to ensure safe operation of the ADF P-8A fleet with consideration to capability and cost of ownership.
  • Provide technical leadership to 92WG and 11SQN in the implementation of PSI Program requirements.
  • Oversee implementation of PSI Program initiatives on behalf of the United States Navy (USN).
  • Lead SRSPO sustainment program in the resolution of P-8A immediate airworthiness issues applicable to the P-8A CFM56 engine system.
  • Lead in service support to develop / promulgate / review designs, repairs and solutions to propulsion system problems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Boeing implementation of P-8A PSIP requirements in accordance with the respective P-8A Propulsion System Integrity Management Plan (PSIMP).
  • Mentor SRSPO staff in PSI program requirements.
  • Approve all changes to in-service elements of the P-8A PSIMP. Ensure ADF unique implementation requirements are adequately accounted for.
  • Brief 92WG Delegate of Continuing Airworthiness Manager (DoCAM) of changes applicable to the P-8A Military Air Operator (MAO).
  • Approve Boeing review of USN NAVAIR PSI routine reports. Communicate recommendations/actions to SRSPO and 92WG.
  • Lead resolution of PSIP airworthiness issues with the Defence Aviation Safety Authority (DASA). Brief SRSPO and SRG Executive on the status of PSIP airworthiness issues.
  • Ensure Boeing meet P-8A PSIMP requirements as contracted. Develop performance reporting frameworks as required. 
  • Ensure 92WG and 11SQN meet P-8A PSIMP requirements, particularly regarding usage monitoring. 
  • Review Boeing assessment of changes to the ADF P-8A Statement of Operating Intent and Usage (SOIU) with consideration to PSI.
  • Support the Environmental Degradation Management (EDM) Lead to develop initiatives across the ADF P-8A fleet. Work with USN NAVAIR to implement these initiatives where possible. 
  • Act as the P8SP lead for international and domestic PSI Working Groups. 
  • Act as the P8SP lead for PSI review activities.
  • Provide Defence Aviation Safety Regulation (DASR) Part M support for P-8A in-service support.
  • Undertake technical information review, including review of Airworthiness Directives and Service Bulletins to assess, develop / promulgate / review designs, repairs and solutions to propulsion system problems.
  • Ensure artefacts are developed in accordance with work instructions, including compliance with change management and quality control processes.
  • Provide regular status information on engineering tasks.
  • Address System Safety and WHS issues relevant to aircraft propulsion systems.
  • Seek and share best engineering practice and knowledge and drive continuous improvement in BDA's engineering management system.

Essential criteria:

  • Minimum of Bachelor of Engineering in Aerospace, Aeronautical, Mechanical or compatible discipline from nationally accredited program or equivalent.
  • Minimum of five years' experience in aircraft propulsion systems structural integrity/repairs.
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation, regulations, standards and best practices in either a Defence or Civil environment.
  • Professional work involving independence in approach and demanding a considerable degree of judgement.
  • Risk and safety analysis and management experience.
  • Experience working with Continuing Airworthiness Management environment including Part 21J liaison for repairs outside standard repair manuals and liaison experience with Part 145 organisations.
  • The ability to be self-motivated, proactive and driven to solve problems.
  • A high degree of personal and professional integrity.
  • Must be an Australian Citizen; possess or able to pass vetting for Australian Security Clearance of NV-1.
  • Ability to obtain membership grade from Engineers Australia (MIEAust) working towards Chartered Status.
