Would you like to be relocated to Port Douglas to work on a diverse range of capital works projects and enjoy an enviable work life balance?

Overview

Located in the Tropics of Australia, Douglas Shire is the only place in the world with two adjoining World Heritage listed areas: The Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics. The Shire covers an area of 2,445 square kms from north of Ellis Beach in the south to the Bloomfield River in the north. The economy of the Shire depends mainly on tourism, with 1.2 million visitors annually exploring the many natural wonders, and agriculture of sugar cane farming and processing.

The Council plays an important role in enhancing this thriving economy and will support your aspirations to build and sustain a career.

The Position

Reporting to the Manager of Council’s Project Office you will supervise external contractors and consultants and internal capital works teams.  These major Capital Works Projects will vary in size from $100K - $13M.  With approximately 30 projects already slated for the current financial year you could be managing road works, land slips, bridge repairs as well as water and sewerage projects. If you have a sense of humour and enjoy working with a fun team, this is a role that will always provide you with a variety of work. Managing the successful delivery of any assigned projects, bringing them in on time and on budget is a given.  What is also important will be getting out onto site and talking to the operators to ensure projects remain on track. Getting on with everyone from the concrete subtractor through to Government Departments and presenting updates to Council will see you involved at every level.

About You

Regarded as an ‘allrounder’, you’re an Engineer that enjoys variety in your working week and in having your problem-solving skills and innovative ideas embraced. With a strong pipeline of significant capital works projects to be carried out, you will relish the chance to manage an interesting and varied portfolio.

Recent professional experience will include client-side project management. You will be renowned for your ability to input into and/or manage complex projects both from a technical and management perspective and this could be your opportunity to ‘step up’ and start taking genuine ownership for outcomes. Importantly, you will have strong technical experience and be confident in your ability to manage outcomes from both a people and contractual perspective.

Why this Role?

Graduating in the last 5-10 years, you are now keen to leverage your experience into a role that offers all the above, plus a genuine work life balance. Living and working in the Port Douglas region offers you a diversity of experiences both personally and professionally, that would be hard to equal anywhere else in Australia. Consistency of work is assured as is stability for your career and the opportunity to be involved in some varied and interesting work.  Some of it will be challenging and you will enjoy solving problems and continuing to add to your professional skills and experience. Relocation Assistance will be provided together with an attractive salary package, 12% super, 5 weeks annual leave and a 19 day month.

Don’t miss this once in a lifetime opportunity!
