Snowy Hydro is a dynamic, integrated energy business that has been providing on-demand, reliable energy to Australia for almost 70 years. Snowy 2.0 is the next chapter in the Snowy Scheme's history. It is a nation-building renewable energy project that will provide on-demand energy and large-scale storage for many generations to come. This pumped-hydro expansion of the Snowy Scheme will link two existing dams, Tantangara and Talbingo, through a 27km underground tunnel and a new underground power station. It is the largest committed renewable energy project in Australia and it will underpin the nation's secure and stable transition to a low-carbon emissions future at the lowest cost for consumers

An exciting opportunity has been created for an experienced Project Engineer- Quality, who will be responsible for performing on-site project engineering quality assurance of civil construction work on behalf of the Snowy 2.0 Owners team. This role will provide oversight of contractor activities to ensure that the built product meets contractual requirements and construction works are conducted in a way that meets Snowy Hydro's project objectives.

The role is based onsite at Lobs Hole on a DIDO (drive-in, drive-out) basis, with a FIFO (fly-in, fly-out) option also considered for suitable candidates. Lobs Hole, located in the Kosciuszko National Park, is the primary construction site for the Snowy 2.0 project that is home to two major TBM tunnelling portals and other significant works, including road construction and maintenance, high voltage power reticulation and the management of large quantities of spoil. Associated construction facilities at the Lobs Hole site include supporting plant, equipment, worker accommodation, workshops and project offices.

Reporting to the Quality Manager - Construction, you will be responsible for: 

  • Maintaining the highest standard of health and safety performance; implementing safety plans, leading by example and demonstrating the Snowy Values with colleagues, team members in accordance with Snowy Hydro Health and Safety policies
  • Performing onsite Quality Management on civil engineering and construction work on behalf of the Snowy 2.0 Owners team  to proactively prevent construction-related quality issues through QM activities including:
  • Ensuring the Employer's Requirements are being met at all times, and the contractor is complying with the Employer's Design and Construction Requirements.
  • Constantly reviewing the contractor's activities, with the aim of detecting any deficiency of performance before the occurrence of delays or a reduction in quality of the work.
  • Ensuring construction works are carried out in accordance with the latest IFC drawings, specifications and other relevant documents.
  • Maintaining up-to-date, accessible and accurate versions of necessary site drawings, documents and records, and have accessible hard copies onsite as required.
  • Ensuring that all necessary documentation is being produced, recorded and managing a register of ITP progress and NCR's.

This role will also provide engineering and quality technical support for Site Surveillance and Assurance Officers (Civil, Safety &  Environmental).

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Degree qualifications in Engineering satisfying the eligibility requirements for Corporate Membership of the Institution of Engineers Australia.
  • Minimum five (5)  years' experience working on large-scale, complex, civil engineering or infrastructure projects. 
  • Demonstrated quality management and associated engineering and construction skills.  
  • Ability to negotiate with, manage and supervise external contractors and consultants.
  • Highly-developed interpersonal communication, influencing and negotiation skills. 
  • Sound knowledge of Quality, OH&S, EEO and Environmental policies, procedures and standards.
