Job Description
Coleman Rail has a long standing reputation as the leading rail and infrastructure contractor in Australia, providing construction services for major rail and transport infrastructure projects Australia-wide, in 2017 Coleman Rail become part of the ACCIONA group of companies with a presence in more than 40 countries.
The Southern Program Alliance (SPA) is one of five alliances responsible for removing 75 of Melbourne's most dangerous and congested level crossings by 2025 as part of Victoria's Big Build transport infrastructure program. The program alliance consists of the Level Crossing Removal Project, Metro Trains Melbourne, Acciona Construction Australia, Coleman Rail, and WSP.
The Project Engineer reports to the Project Manager & Manager, Delivery and assists with the planning, execution and closing of a project. Throughout this period, the Project Engineer provides technical, administrative, Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality & Sustainability (HSEQS) support to the Construction Manager and Supervisors. As Project Engineer a key requirement is to be able to accurately report on how your projects are running (i.e. cost, time, scope, and quality) at all times, requiring you to know and understand your daily costs.

Responsibilities:

  • Review the drawings and specifications to produce a Completion Report Tracker prior to undertaking the works, which is built upon and closed out during project delivery
  • Obtain permits to work (e.g., Services Permit, Working Platform Permit, other external Permits to Work)
  • Prepare a construction budget, communicating this information (including production targets required to meet budget) clearly and concisely to the Supervisor/s
  • Prepare a staging program that clearly spells out how the works will be constructed, complete with a related construction program
  • Order materials necessary to perform the works (within expenditure limits) by raising Purchase Requisitions in the Company's Job Costing, Contract Administration and Financial Accounting system.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Civil Engineering degree (or similar)
  • 4 years of experience as a project-based engineer in the construction engineering industry, in disciplines such as rail and associated civil infrastructure
  • Current Driver License and your own reliable vehicle
