Metro Trains operates and maintains Melbourne’s busy suburban train network. Successfully transporting over 400 000 passengers per day is achieved by our large dedicated workforce. The Infrastructure Division is at the forefront of maintaining and renewing our network and is currently seeking a Production Manager to join our Structures Team.

About the role:

The Production Manager is required to demonstrate leadership through building individual and team capability, and driving high performing teams. They provide leadership, strategy, technical and administrative management of compliant structural inspections, maintenance work order generation and managing contractors while delivering all works safely and as efficiently as possible.

Key responsibilities:

  • Critical examination of work practices to identify problems and initiate/develop alternative work procedures and strategy to improve quality, safety and efficiency
  • Design work tasks and resources to maximise time on the track and the output of the teams
  • Ensure adequate resources and equipment is available for all works to ensure compliance
  • Ensure all information systems used by subordinates are effective in terms of timely and correct information input and address any non-conformances  
  • Implement Infrastructure Structures Technical Maintenance Plan
  • Manage additional contract resources in order to deliver works including requisition, procurement, cost analysis in line with budget, performance, safety and quality in accordance with Metro’s contractor management procedures.

Qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent qualification with min 5-7 years’ experience in inspections/ construction/ maintenance– mandatory
  • Train Track Safety Awareness (TTSA) – mandatory
  • Certificate IV in Front-Line Management – desirable
  • Safe Working Certificate – desirable
  • First Aid Certificate Level 2 – desirable
