About the role

We are looking for an Engineer with a strong technical understanding of manufacturing processes, combustion systems, fume treatment/scrubber technologies and/or baking furnace monitoring. Ideally, you will combine this with your engaging and collaborative style to drive innovation focusing on the elimination of waste and improvement of reliability. 

Reporting directly to the Superintendent - Anode Operations, you will be a key member of the team contributing towards continuous improvement processes in the way we operate. Working Monday to Friday your focus will be on: 

  • Identifying opportunities to improve and optimise the core manufacturing process 
  • Leading and supporting changes to ensure a safer operation
  • Monitoring and improving the performance of multiple assets 
  • Supporting continuous improvement opportunities within the carbon and reduction areas
  • Developing systems and tools to assist the Operations teams with process monitoring and improvements

About you

This is a unique opportunity for you to demonstrate the following:

  • Tertiary Qualification in Chemical/Processing or similar
  • Operational experience in either Manufacturing / Heavy Industry / Smelter environments
  • Effective stakeholder engagement and focus on relationship building
  • Strong analytical abilities, results orientation, resilience and a positive approach to risk mitigation
  • Demonstrated experience in continuous improvement initiatives/projects

 Where you will be working

The Boyne Smelters Ltd (BSL) Carbon department operates two world-class anode baking furnaces where ‘green’ anodes are baked continuously to produce high quality, low resistance anodes for use in the sites Reduction Lines.  The Carbon Bake team are responsible for operating these furnaces including loading and unloading anodes and packing coke with overhead cranes, operation of furnace firing equipment and fume treatment centres. As the process engineer for the carbon bakes, your role will see you positioned as a key change agent who can identify where we can be better and then relentlessly pursue success to safely deliver quality anodes for use in the reduction lines.
