Banana Shire is situated in Central Queensland, Australia located 120 km west of the growing industrial city and port of Gladstone - and an easy drive to the city of Rockhampton.

Our population is approximately 14,291 people spread over 28,577 square kilometres, of which only 27 square kilometres is urbanised. Major industries include Coal Mining, Power Generation, Beef Production, dryland cropping and irrigation such as lucerne and cotton.

The Council sits in the town of Biloela which is the largest town in the Shire.  Our urban centres and towns include Moura, Taroom, Banana, Baralaba, Dululu, Goovigen, Jambin, Thangool, Theodore, Wowan and Cracow.

The Opportunity

Banana Shire Council is in an exciting growth phase of expansion and is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Principal Maintenance Engineer to join the Infrastructure Team. The successful applicant will work with Council to provide leadership, development, strategic and operational direction whilst delivering the Road Maintenance Performance Contract.  To succeed in this role you will have previous experience with REFLECT, have strong communication and leadership skills and be committed to delivering a range of quality services to our community.


Key Accountability and Responsibilities will include:

  • Provide leadership and direction to all road maintenance crews
  • Prepare maintenance programs in conjunction with the capital works program to ensure availability and maximise utilisation of all resources
  • The ability to train staff to utilise REFLECT to its full functionality across Council

Eligibility requirements

Mandatory Criteria

  • QLD General Safety Induction (Construction Industry) Certification
  • Queensland C class drivers licence (minimum requirement – provisional licence)


  • Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering and or over 20 years experience in Road maintenance operations with at least 10 years in a senior role
