We are looking for an experienced Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join our TEK (Technology, Engineering Knowledge) business, to assist delivery of our large multidisciplinary tenders and projects.

Key accountabilities of the role include;
Provide geotechnical engineering support & advice to tenders and projects to ensure optimum solutions are designed and verified, identifying opportunities to deliver cost effective solutions and managing ongoing workloads.
Review geotechnical engineering activities on bids and projects in consultation with colleagues to ensure that standards of quality, cost, safety and program are achieved.
Lead the development of geotechnical temporary and permanent works and construction methods, promoting best practice, innovation and lessons learnt particularly regarding deep excavations, foundations, retaining walls,  earth works and material management  with strong understanding of geotechnical risk management throughout the project life cycle.
Ensure John Hollands best interests are represented commercial and contractual awareness in dealings, especially with subcontractors, reporting on forecasted workload, utilisations, value-add, project engagement and opportunities (including direct reports).
Mentor and develop the capabilities and competencies of the team ensuring high level performance of duties in accordance with John Holland processes, systems and procedures.

In order to be successful in the role, it is expected you will;

  • Hold a tertiary qualification in Civil and Geotechnical Engineering (preferably master’s degree) with Engineers Australia’s Chartered Status (preferable), otherwise working towards obtaining Chartered Status.
  • 15+ years local and international experience specialising in site investigation and interpretation, design & construction of geotechnical works and construction methods in major or complex projects involving cut and covers, deep excavations, foundations, piled walls, diaphragm walls, embankments, cut/batters, soft soil and rock engineering, ground improvement and instrumentation and monitoring.
  • Extensive use and application of various Australian Standards and industry requirements with strong rock and soil mechanics background, experienced in review and verification of geotechnical analyses utilising programs such as Plaxis, Slope/W, Pile design programs (single/grouped piles), Rocscience programs, WALLAP, etc.
  • Experience in managing engineering teams in design during tender and delivery phase and direct resources within a variety of contractual arrangements including Construct Only, Design & Construct, Alliance, Joint Ventures, Alliances & PPP Contracts.
