As part of our development planning team, you will facilitate the implementation of road, drainage (including modelling) and ancillary works as part of the Subdivision Construction process, and ensure that developments are in accordance with Council requirements and standards.  You will also oversee the production of innovative and effective policies, plans and practices for the development of Council’s Road and Drainage related infrastructure

The role:

This permanent, full-time position involves:

  1. Effectively managing the Development Team including working with staff to develop annual performance plans.

  2. Providing support and advice to the Coordinator Development Planning.

  3. Liaising with developers, consultants, contractors and statutory authorities and providing authoritative advice on Council Standards and requirements.

  4. Liaising with infrastructure service authorities to ensure coordinated planning of newly developed areas.

  5. Providing engineering advice on matters such as traffic, drainage (including modelling), and car parking, for the issuing of development approvals.

  6. Analysing and evaluating submitted engineering documentation including drawings and specifications relating to all private subdivisional development to confirm compliance with relevant Council standards and requirements.

  7. Overseeing construction of approved subdivisional works in accordance with Council standards including monitoring of safe construction techniques and procedures and quality control.

  8. Liaising and directing activities of Council’s subdivision inspection personnel.

Who we’re looking for …

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  1. A tertiary degree in Civil Engineering recognised by the Institute of Engineers Australia.

  2. Extensive and board municipal engineering experience particularly relating to road and drainage design, investigations and civil works and new development. 

  3. Substantial experience managing a group of professional engineers and technical officers, including mentoring and coaching.

  4. Demonstrated ability to apply theoretical engineering principles in examining engineering documentation for subdivisional plans.

  5. Ability to foster a team environment and provide challenges resulting in a happy and dedicated work group.

  6. Ability to communicate clearly, tactfully and concisely with staff and members of the community.

  7. Ability to persuade, convince and negotiate in order to achieve goals and resolve conflict.

  8. Demonstrated experience working in a pressured environment with competitive demands.

  9. Ability to problem solve and think laterally to come up with innovative solutions to difficult problems.

  10. Exceptional interpersonal skills including ability to translate technical information into plain English.
