The Naval Technical Bureau (NTB) is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager with a background in naval systems and technology to fill the position of Power Machinery and Armaments Domain Lead. Whilst leading and managing a team of engineers and technical specialists, you will be exposed to and expected to assist in the management of issues with the definition, development and operation of the very wide range of mechanical systems employed in the platforms operated by the Royal Australian Navy and other navies. You will also have opportunities to work with specialists in other area of naval technology and to contribute to the professional development of engineers at a range of stages in their careers. The NTB is responsible for the development, management and application of understanding to the broad spectrum of technologies that are utilised in the delivery of Maritime Capability.
The NTB provides engineering products and services to various customers across the Capability Systems Life Cycle (CLSC), including:
The Power Machinery and Armaments (PMA) Domain Lead is responsible for the NTB engineering products and services related to mechanical technologies employed in the naval environment, including power generation, distribution and lighting, all types of primary and auxiliary machinery, armament and explosive ordnance storage & handling, and all fluid systems and environmental control systems other than fire safety systems. The Domain Lead is accountable for the quality and timeliness of products and services, delivered by the cells within the domain and is responsible for managing domain resources to ensure demand is met.
The Domain Lead identifies changing technology, processes and practices and implements change within the domain, developing staff accordingly and managing succession. The NTB is a geographically dispersed organisation with elements in Canberra, Sydney and Nowra. Whilst the position is based in Canberra, there may be opportunities for travel to support testing and evaluation of ship systems. These activities may be conducted interstate and overseas, on land and at sea. Travel for the management of PMA Domain personnel located remote from Canberra is also likely.
