Naval Group Australia has one singular focus - to design and build 12 state-of-the-art submarines for our country. To continue this work, we are now accepting expressions of interest from Mechatronic Engineers to join Australia’s Future Submarine Program. 

The role will spend an initial 12 month period of on-the-job training in France and deliver the necessary sovereign capability requirement to Naval Group Australia upon return to Adelaide.

A Platform Land-Based Test Facility (PLBTF) is being designed and built to host early integration testing of diesel generator sets, batteries, electrical networks and the propulsion motor for the Future Submarine. The purpose of this job it to contribute the technical activities of the test system installed within this facility. 

More specifically, the Mechatronic Engineer (Platform Land Based Test Facility) will:

  • Establish a deep understanding of the concept of operations and requirements for their allocated prototype systems and test benches;
  • Use engineering plans to monitor and control detailed design, integration and commissioning activities;
  • Assess detailed design options and justify the selection of the optimum solution;
  • Use the results of analyses to inform, evaluate and refine the detailed design;
  • Provide technical support to the procurement of instrumentation equipment and supplies required within the Platform Land-Based Test Facility.

To be successful, the position suits a candidate that has:

  • Tertiary degree in Mechatronic or Computer Systems Engineering (essential);
  • Demonstrated experience within the defence, maritime, automotive or energy sectors;
  • Demonstrated experience as a mechatronics, controls or instrumentation engineer designing, integrating or testing complex or embedded systems or assets;

You must be eligible to attain an NV1 Australian Defence Security Clearance. (Please visit the ASGVA website for further information relating to obtaining and maintaining a security clearance).
