ANSTO leverages great science to deliver big outcomes. We partner with scientists and engineers and apply new technologies to provide real-world benefits. Our work improves human health, saves lives, builds our industries and protects the environment. ANSTO is the home of Australia’s most significant landmark and national infrastructure for research. Thousands of scientists from industry and academia benefit from gaining access to state-of-the-art instruments every year.
ANSTO’s Minerals business is a mining consultancy with world-leading expertise in uranium ore processing, rare earth process development and removal of radioactivity from ores. We work with mining companies in Australia and around the world to design processes for a range of projects and commodities, from laboratory through to pilot plant testing. We provide clients with in-depth feasibility analyses and solutions to key processing challenges that impact their bottom line.
Internships offer the opportunity to meet some of Australia’s brightest minds and the chance to apply theory and practice, in your chosen field, to enhance the value of your remaining study. Students bring fresh ideas and the latest in theory and practice to the workplace, challenge and sometimes improve processes and contribute in a meaningful way to the projects and activities.
The Minerals business is now recruiting for their upcoming 2020 Year in Industry Internship Program which is anticipated to start in late January 2020.
The Minerals Year in Industry Internship Program is designed for students studying towards relevant scientific, engineering or information technology degrees.
Students must have at least one full year’s study remaining in their undergraduate or honours degree at the completion of their time at ANSTO. As this program is a full time paid opportunity for penultimate year students, it requires individuals to defer study for the year.
Metallurgical Process Development
These opportunities involve bench and pilot scale process development test work. Activities include equipment design, set-up and operation, sampling, chemical analysis, data assessment and preliminary reporting. Successful applicants will demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge and network within and beyond ANSTO. These positions involve occasional shift work.
Skills and Experience
Opportunities are only available to students who have completed the second year of a three-year degree or the third year of a four/five-year degree at the end of 2019. To be eligible you will have at least one full year’s study remaining in your degree at the completion of your internship at ANSTO.
“We are looking for students with a positive attitude and excellent interpersonal skills who have a genuine interest in working in a hands-on research and development environment within the minerals industry”.
