Satellite Communications Systems Program Office (SATCOMSPO) located in Brindabella Business Park, Canberra are seeking Professional Engineering Managers. SATCOMSPO acquires and sustains leading edge SATCOM equipment in support of Australian Defence Force operations, both here and overseas. You will lead and contribute to significant technology changes to our Defence communications capabilities including ADF future SATCOM, Wideband Global SATCOM partnership with the US DoD, IS-22 satellite narrow-band payload, Optus C1 payload along with supporting terrestrial based infrastructure and equipment.


SATCOMSPO is seeking highly motivated and skilled engineering professionals with a genuine interest to contribute and be a part of a team delivering this strategically significant capability. As a Professional Engineering Manager, you will be accountable to the Chief Engineer to take a lead role in the planning, development, management and execution of the SATCOMSPO engineering program.


Our Ideal Candidate:

You will have proven experience and knowledge in Systems Engineering and/or Communications Engineering (preferably Satellite Communications). You will also ideally possess people management, leadership and experience in stakeholder management and high quality written and oral communication skills. You will be able to operate effectively within a Government Procurement Framework.


This position requires a Bachelor of Engineering from an Australian Institution or a qualification gained elsewhere, that satisfies the requirements of the Washington Accord for recognition as a Professional Engineer.

This position will provide opportunity to:

  • Take a lead role in the system definition, design, integration and test of Satellite Communications systems:
  • Manage people, including contractors and suppliers;
  • Provide planning and direction for project engineering activities; and
  • Manage engineering related activities, data item deliverables and engineering risk management activities.
  • Opportunities for secondment to the Australian Wideband Global SATCOM Authority to undertake testing activities on a range of satellite Earth Terminals for the Whole of Government.
