This exciting opportunity will suit an inspired leader who is looking to join a highly complex engineering environment to complement the corporate engineering function that provide resources and support to various branches within Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG).

The EL2 Chief Systems Engineer’s primary focus will be managing various projects, internal and external to Chief Systems Engineering Branch, and allocation of resources in order to achieve project objectives and best outcomes for Defence.

 Key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead and mentor a team of engineering professionals in an integrated workforce to drive productivity and boost morale
  • Influence and drive the delivery of very complex system engineering functions, and innovative activities
  • Translate and shape strategy into operational goals for the development, integration and evaluation of Defence engineering outcomes
  • Lead and attend regular meetings with various levels of stakeholders

About our Team
The Chief Systems Engineering Branch within the Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG) is an integrated team comprising of Australian Public Service (APS), Australian Defence Force (ADF) and contractor personnel.

The Engineering and Technical (E&T) Function provides the engineering and technical services required to support delivery of capability. The Function is made up of the engineering and technical people in CASG, most of whom work within the projects and Systems Program Offices (SPOs. Under the CASG Balanced Matrix model, the Branch supports the Engineering &Technical (E&T) workforce in SPO’s and business units to deliver capability to the ADF

E&T Function members are involved in the development and control of the requirements, design, construction, configuration, performance, verification, validation, maintenance and modification of a product; including activities such as the conduct of technical investigations, reviews, and assessment of designs, materiel, incidents and organisations.

Our ideal candidate will come from an extensive engineering background with proven experience and skills in systems engineering.

Key attributes and experience we are looking for:

  • Stage 1 competency under the Washington Accord (e.g. four year engineering degree accredited by Engineer’s Australia)
  • A sound understanding of engineering principles with a demonstrated ability to apply this in a complex acquisition and / or sustainment environment
  • Innovative and forward thinking to problem solve is highly regarded
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with ability to build and maintain productive working relationships and influence a better outcome
  • An experienced and inspired leader and mentor who is passionate about coaching and mentoring teams
  • A precise and confident communicator in both verbal and written communication
