About the Opportunity 

We are the Managing Contractor for the Guided Missile Destroyer (DDG) sustainment program. Highly collaborative and agile, the program boasts of an engaging, consultative and solutions focused approach.  Working on one of the most complex warship programs in Australia.

We are seeking an Engineering Change Officer to join our team, located at Garden Island, Sydney.

As the Engineering Change Officer (Combat Systems) you will provide technical leadership and guidance to the Combat Systems functions within the DDGSPO Combat Systems Portfolio. The Engineering Change Officer will also be responsible for ensuring efficiency, economy and quality structural designs solutions for the DDG Class.

In terms of specific responsibilities, you will:

  • Act as an integrated member of the Combat Systems Portfolio, representing the Combat Systems function both internally and across the DDG Enterprise.
  • Provide technical and project leadership to the Combat Systems engineering activities conducted by the Combat Systems Portfolio. This will include cross organisational collaboration and engagement in order to achieve DDG Combat System Portfolio outcomes.
  • Manage Combat Systems engineering tasks in accordance with budget, schedule and priority as directed by the Combat Systems Portfolio Manager and provide regular status information to the relevant supervisors and project authorities as required.
  • Take responsibility for contributing to team planning, risk management, quality and OHSE by ensuring that the statuses of these requirements are integrated into the SPO reporting functions via the Combat Systems Portfolio Manager and the Engineering Change Team.
  • Make engineering decisions and review Combat Systems engineering work within the delegated technical authority.
  • Develop alternative concepts to Combat Systems problems and seek concurrence from other functional leads and the Combat Systems Portfolio Manager.
  • Undertake review of engineering artefacts developed by members of the Portfolio or by recognised members of the DDG Technical Support Network.
  •  Manage Combat Systems related engineering studies, evaluations and test & trials; including being accountable for the maintenance of ship Signals, Frequency, and RADHAZ management.
  • Work with Customer and DDG Enterprise members to develop and maintain a positive culture with the DDG Enterprise.
  • Positively contribute to the engineering policy, standards and management of the Enterprise.
  • Undertake engineering activities, including liaison with the broader Combat System portfolio, the Platform Systems Portfolio and the DDGSPO Configuration Management and Support functions.

About you

As an ideal applicant for this opportunity, you'll have:

Experience in a number of the following areas

  • Systems engineering including specification and requirements development.
  • Familiarity with Combat Systems industry standards and current maritime Combat Systems design practices and standards.
  • Combat Systems sustainment, maintenance and design.
  • AEGIS Weapons System (AWS).
  • Hobart Class Combat Systems (HCCS) Architecture.
  • Cyber Security or Vulnerability Assessment.
  • EMI/C solutions and compliance.
  • RF/RADHAZ engineering solutions
  • Materials, parts and process selection.
  • Environmental and ruggedized design and qualification.
  • Supportability engineering including the development and remediation of system ILS artefacts.

It is also essential that the successful applicant holds either an Electrical, Electronic or Mechatronic Engineering degree qualification which meets the requirements for membership of the Institute of Engineers Australia (IEAust).

As Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance.

International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) are applicable and as such, your nationality may be a factor in determining your suitability for this role.
