The role of the Engineer Professional – Systems in Defence is to engage with stakeholders, investigate systems engineering concepts and strategies, deliver and manage systems engineering analysis and advice in support of the Defence Capability Life Cycle. The role will also require you to investigate, analyse and report on the systems engineering process to achieve joint multi-domain capability objectives, develop and implement recommendations and advice to address capability risks and issues.
You will be working for Joint Capabilities Group (JCG) in the recently established Multi-Domain Office (MDO) - an organisation that works across capability programs of multiple domains, including Land, Maritime, Air, Space, and Information and Cyber to ensure that Defence can truly operate as a ‘Joint Force’. Within this office, you will be part of a multi-disciplinary team and will bring your integration and interoperability expertise to complement the organisation.
Within the MDO, you are a ‘doer’ working to an experienced Director, assisting them in decision-making and stakeholder engagement. For this reason you will have to be motivated, passionate strive for excellence in your role. This position requires someone who loves being a part of a team and providing valuable contribution that will aid strategic decision-making.
As an EL1 Engineer Professional – Systems you will exercise a considerable degree of independence and perform a subject matter expert role. This includes applying sound decision-making and judgement to provide expert policy advice. You will have in-depth knowledge of systems engineering and will be responsible for the development, implementation, compliance and review of policies and procedures relevant to the joint multi-domain environment. You will engage in very complex problem solving and issues management and may coordinate and perform detailed or sensitive projects that impact on strategic, political or operational outcomes for Defence.
As an EL1 Engineer Professional – Systems will be responsible for actively managing key stakeholder relationships. You will be required to understand their expectations and concerns to effectively communicate methodologies and requirements to achieve integration outcomes across domains for capabilities of Defence. This includes the development of timely and high-quality agendum and issues papers and minutes for capability committees.
About our Team
The Joint Capabilities Group Multi-Domain Office (JCG MDO) is a small team with a big footprint reaching across the whole of the Defence enterprise. It is new team founded on a new concept, full of high-achievers. The team understands the ins and outs of Defence Strategy and works with multiple directorates within JCG including Cyber, Electronic Warfare, Space Services, Command, Control, Computers and Communication and Logistics. As an EL1 in the JCG MDO you can expect a dynamic and proactive environment that encourages problem solving and innovative bold ideas.
The MDO works collaboratively with stakeholders of Defence capability programs across multiple domains to design and deliver high-level, strategic activities and documents, such as scenario planning, high-level and targeted science and technology research and development projects, and risk management strategies and frameworks.

Ideally, you will have a background in one of the following: Cyber, Electronic Warfare, Space Services, Command, Control, Computers, and Communication.
