About you

Due to the growth of our business and an expanded portfolio of projects, an exciting opportunity exists for a highly motivated Highways Engineer to join our team. Our project teams undertake work on a variety of projects from urban and rural highways to low-cost roads in the developing world. You will be a key part of our Highways team covering a broad range of skills relating to road design and pavement design. You will be responsible for undertaking design and consulting services for various major road projects and related areas.

You will ideally have:

  • Strong understanding of the development process as well as necessary approvals and consent.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong design ability and engineering skills and knowledge.
  • Clear understanding of the need to consider occupational Health and Safety in all activities, including Safety in Design.
  • Ability to quickly develop successful client relationships and work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent planning, organisational and time management skills.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering and you are working towards chartered membership of IEAust or equivalent.
  • Strong track record in highways design and up to date experience of highways projects and procedures.
  • Extensive knowledge of Austroads design guides and Main Roads WA supplements, and relevant standards.
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office software.

About the role

The Highways Engineer will undertake design, project management and consulting services within Highways design in order to enhance the team’s portfolio of skills and expertise. The role’s responsibilities will also include: 

In this role you will:

  • Investigation, design, analysis and modelling, technical documentation, cost estimates, tender submissions, project scheduling and meeting deadlines and budgets.
  • Partake in provision of design and technical consultation in areas such as, road design, pavement design, stormwater drainage design and water sensitive road design. You will be responsible for checking the quality and accuracy of own and others work. Furthermore, you may be responsible for the development of others through providing guidance, training and feedback.  
  • Authorise non-standard letters, reports and other project related correspondence.
  • Represent your team or group at external meetings and you may be involved in developing events, activities and internal projects of some complexity.
  • Work directly with clients, contractors and government agencies at both a technical and strategic level.
  • Update quality systems information on all project work and contribute to the overall profitability of the highways business group.
