Role DetailsGold Fields Australia is currently seeking an Engineer: Geotechnical to join the Technical Services Department at St Ives Gold Mine. Reporting to the Senior Engineer: Geotechnical, you will be responsible for the provision of a qualified geotechnical support service within the mine that will assist in the achievement of budget development, production, meeting all quality standards including cost, safety and environment. The primary responsibility of this role will be to provide operational support to the Underground mines, but with assistance to open pit operations as required by the business. This role is offered on a 8 days on 6 days off roster and would require the incumbent to be residential in Kambalda or Kalgoorlie, or Fly in Fly out from Perth.
Key responsibilities will include:
Always act in a manner that seeks to enhance the safety culture and performance of GFA and ensures that the Vital Behaviours are adhered to at all times.
Provide a geotechnical service to the mine through understanding, complying, mentoring and liaising with business partners to promote full statutory compliance with mining regulations, legislation and company safety objectives relevant to ground control.
Daily production tasks relating to geotechnical engineering including review of development plans, blast plans, documentation of inspections and data collection, geotechnical monitoring, stability analysis, recommendations and QAQC.
Communication of the geotechnical aspects of mining to the workforce and management.
Collect and analyse geotechnical parameters to ensure future mining recommendations are forthcoming when required.
Capable of running geotechnical aspects of a mine with some input from other senior staff and undertake work for medium term projects.
Actively identify and manage geotechnical risks and the development of systems to monitor and manage these.
Develop and maintain an understanding of excavation design, planning, geological and operational issues to identify and communicate potential opportunities and concerns.
Collect and analyse geotechnical data including effective recognition, investigation, analysis of rock fall events and ground control issues. Update and report on the rock fall, seismic and other databases where applicable.
Ensure that geotechnical life of mine contributions are of the highest quality by determining design parameters, modelling and advising on the most appropriate mine design and sequence including future mine projects.
Key factors to your success include;
Bachelor Degree in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering or Geology with Post Graduate qualifications in Geomechanics.
5 years' experience in Geotechnical Engineering.
3 years' operational experience in underground mining.
Knowledge of relevant statutory obligations.
Experience using Deswik, Rocsience™ suite, & Numerical modelling packages.
Project/Cost Management Training would be highly regarded.
