About the role

This position is responsible for the preparation of designs, drawings and estimates for civil infrastructure projects. The role of the Designer requires substantial experience in road works and stormwater drainage design, and a working knowledge of open space, irrigation, water and wastewater design. They also provide assistance and specialist advice to internal and external stakeholders on design issues associated with the development of council infrastructure.

About you

To be successful in this role you will require an Associate Degree in Civil Engineering or approved equivalent and substantial experience in road works and stormwater drainage design, traffic infrastructure design and a working knowledge of open space, irrigation, water and wastewater design. Experience working within a local government environment is desirable.

You will have knowledge of design and drafting software (e.g. AutoCAD, 12D), including the Microsoft Office suite of applications and time management and project analysis skills including the ability to prioritise tasks, assess and negotiate project timeframes. Project Management experience would be highly regarded.

Your sound working knowledge of procedures used by Main Roads and other external agencies relating to road design and construction within a Local Government Authority area as well as a working knowledge of design principles relating to structural infrastructure, such as bridges and buildings will be clear to see.

You will require a working knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation including: engineering guidelines (Australian Rainfall and Runoff, Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, Austroads, Water Services Association of Australia), Aus-Spec and relevant Australian Standards and Work Health and Safety principles and knowledge of quality assurance systems and environmental management systems and their application to the design of civil engineering infrastructure and projects.
