  • Apply artificial intelligence, machine learning and data science to solve Cyber Mission Assurance problems.
  • Develop research questions and create new knowledge and capability.
  • Engage with Australian and Coalition Defence Forces to better understand capability gaps.

The Defence Science and Technology (DST) Group is a national leader in safeguarding Australia by delivering valued scientific and innovative solutions for Defence and national security. The Cyber and Electronic Warfare Division undertakes research and development focused on identifying, analysing and countering threats to Australia through electronic means. Cyberwarfare Operations Branch undertakes research and development on new and novel concepts, technologies and techniques in order to enable autonomous, resilient and effective cyber capabilities with an operational edge.

As the Cyber Mission Assurance Research Specialist, you will work with an innovative team which develops tools and techniques that provide military commanders with an understanding of how their missions depend on ICT infrastructure, and provide situational awareness of their capacity to fight-through cyber-attacks. You will initiate advanced research in one or more research themes including automated characterisation and mapping of military cyber terrain; automated identification of mission essential tasks and military workflows; technologies supporting visualisation of Cyber Mission Assurance situational awareness; and mission assurance tool prototyping and experimentation for defensive applications.

We are looking for a collaborator who will build national and international partnerships with universities, government, and military research organisations.  You will support external engagement across multiple DST sites and have the opportunity to travel nationally and internationally to deliver and influence program research and outcomes. You will help inspire and guide a dedicated team of scientists and cyber security professionals, providing an understanding of the importance of their work and the relationship between operational tasks and research goals.

DST is an inclusive employer, committed to diversity and equity in the work place. At DST, you will enjoy Australian Public Service conditions which include an attractive salary package and flexible, family-friendly working arrangements. Our staff have access to flexible working hours with opportunities for part-time and home-based work. Defence provides a superannuation contribution of 15.4 per cent, higher than most industries, with the opportunity for you to make additional personal contributions.

Application Closing Date:  Monday 04 November 2019
