The Role

Cardno is reinforcing its already strong presence and capabilities in the Sydney region by growing the Bridge’s team with a Bridge Design Manager who will be a technical expect within their specialisation. The role will suit someone with strong technical abilities, design consultancy experience, and track record of major infrastructure and long span bridge projects.

Cardno are looking for an experienced Design Manager or a Senior Bridge Engineer who wants to move their career into managing major bridge infrastructure projects across APAC.

Cardno's bridge team is part of the Transport business unit which consists of Road Engineers Geotechnical' Transport Planning and Traffic Engineering. The team has a strong pipeline of projects to jump straight into.

Specifically, your duties will include:

  • Management of design packages of small and large scale projects
  • Provide bridge / structural designs, and technical reviews associated with various projects
  • Provides design and financial expertise on large and small projects during tender and proposal writing
  • Leads the preparation of engineering development proposals and feasibility studies
  • High profile projects with RMS and other state and government authorities nationally, and opportunities to work on iconic and unique bridges
  • Build and manage client relationships through effective and commercially astute business development
  • Directs and controls specific projects for nominated clients
  • Liaise with stakeholders to ensure that work is within scope and complies with appropriate standards and guidelines
  • Advises management and/or clients in relation to compliance with regulatory requirements or industry guidelines
  • Work collaboratively with other team members and in other disciplines to help improve productivity by aligning tasks to skill and competence level
  • Provides technical leadership within a large project through the provision of advice or recommendations

About you

You will be a proactive, experienced Bridge Engineer with the right combination of talent, energy and a commitment to technical excellence.

Additionally, you will display:

  • Degree in Civil / Structural Engineering, recognised by Engineers Australia
  • Extensive experience in bridge design/engineering as well as other structural design projects, including bridge and road infrastructure, temporary works etc.
  • Outstanding technical knowledge to provide technical leadership and guidance to other specialists
  • Analysis and modelling experience in a range of software packages, e.g. Midas, Microstran, Spacegass, Strand 7, Autodesk Structural Bridge Design
  • Strong working knowledge of Australian codes and standards, regulatory requirements, guidelines, current trends and legislation in order to deliver innovative and practical solutions
  • Interpersonal skills including clear & confident communication to manage stakeholders, and to allow for harmonious working relationships
  • Proficient in allocating resources to achieve specific objectives
  • Self-motivation to help deliver successful projects

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Experience in bridge load ratings and capacity assessments
  • Experience with RMS and other state authorities
