The Role
As a Systems Engineer in the Collins Submarine Program, you will perform an important role in the upgrade of Defence submarine capability focusing on an upgrade to the Collins Sonar. You will work in a dynamic and diverse environment requiring a number of key skills to undertake the following tasks:

  • Perform complex activities and tasks relating to requirements development, system definition, design and development, integration, verification and validation, testing and working to agreed priorities and outcomes.
  • Deliver complex systems engineering services and products through planning, organisation control and integration.
  • Implement processes across the systems engineering lifecycle using technical and professional knowledge and experience.
  • Communicate with stakeholders and line management including preparing briefs, proposals, reports and presentations.
  • Analyse complex systems engineering issues using knowledge and experience to identify and recommend solutions.
  • Participate in test activities at integration sites, test platforms and submarines.

About our Team
The SEA1439 Phase 6 project team manages the sonar upgrade on the Collins Class Submarine. The project team is based at Russell Offices in Canberra and consists of 15 APS employees including 6 engineers that work closely with Navy and industry distributed throughout Australia, and is part of the Submarine Combat Systems Program that manages the combat system on the Collins class and other submarine programs.

Our Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate is a confident engineer with a strong background in managing systems and software development, integration and/or testing. You have experience (or desire to learn) with software management strategies (including agile), virtualization or containerization techniques, security principles and engineering processes that shorten the delivery timeframes of capability improvements on seagoing platforms with limited access opportunities.

You have good negotiation and briefing skills and a high attention to detail. You are able to work autonomously, driving sound engineering solutions and corresponding recommendations within a fast paced environment. You are a great communicator who is able to work well within a diverse network of Navy and civilian government personnel and contractors.
