Aeronautical Life Support Logistics Management Unit (ALSLMU) within the Surveillance & Response Systems Program Office (SRSPO) sustains Aeronautical Life Support Equipment (ALSE) used by the Australian Defence Force (ADF: Army, Air force and Navy) on 18 different Aviation platforms. It provides the ADF with a SME on ALSE matters which directly supports the delivery of ALSE equipment. 

The unit comprises a multi-discipline military, APS and industry workforce delivering:

  • In-Service management to ensure efficient and effective operation of current and future equipment fleets
  • Provide Military Air Operators with recommendations supporting the use of ALSE across the ADF
  • Provide authoritative engineering and technical support to meet regulatory requirements
  • Plan Fleet Replacement and Upgrades
  • Procuring and sustaining ALSE
  • Manage ALSLMU inventory in accordance with extant ADF policy
  • Govern and manage ALSE In-service support contracts.

This position fulfils design engineering functions that enable ALSE capability for the ADF. This includes:

  • Develop, Review and Approve formal advice in support of the ALSE Senior Design Engineer (SDE) / Delegate of the Safety Authority (DoSA) to customer stakeholders
  • Assess Reliability Availability and Maintainability (RAM) reporting to assess potential for fleet replacements or efficiencies.
  • Manage airworthiness design standards for ALSE, including routine reviews and advancing standards to reflect global best practice.
  • Support ALSE acquisition projects through planning, coordinating and executing test and evaluation activities for ALSE operator and aircraft integration.

The position undertakes a key Subject Matter Expert role within the unit due to the specialist knowledge it is required to attain and apply in relation to ALSE capability. It is also responsible for:

  • acting as the lead technology manager for ADF ALSE domains.
  • developing and mentoring junior engineering and technical staff to attain mandated levels of engineering authority.

In addition to the stated Engineering qualification requirements, to achieve these key expected results applicants must also demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and professional development to enhance their expertise in current and emerging ALSE technology. It also requires strong communications skills with the ability to influence ALSE technology decisions by imparting this expertise to others, especially the customer, and through effective engagement with a range of stakeholders involved in the acquisition, sustainment and operation of ALSE.
