The Engineering and Technical Centre of Expertise (E&T CoE) Assistant Domain Functional Lead (A/DFL) located at RAAF Williamtown reports to the regional E&T Functional Support Officer (FSO). The position incumbent is responsible for coordinating, delivering and monitoring enabling services to E&T staff within the Newcastle/Sydney area. You will achieve outcomes on behalf of the E&T DFL – Air Domain Centre, by applying your understanding of technical regulation and policy, and experience in technical assurance and governance activities. Your work will require strong interpersonal skills, leadership, effective written and verbal communication, dynamic complex problem solving, creativity and innovation, comprehension and analysis. To perform this role effectively, you will be expected to develop extensive knowledge of the application of E&T professional practice in the Air Domain.

The role will provide you the unique opportunity to be at the forefront of E&T reform within the Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG), and your location within a regional System Program Office will provide the opportunity to work directly with stakeholders to implement functional support initiatives. Your role requires you to have significant engagement with Air Domain and E&T CoE management, staff and stakeholders throughout Australia.

As the A/DFL, your duties shall include:

Supporting the regional FSO by:

  • Understanding the roles of E&T staff within the Newcastle/Sydney area and providing functional support to these staff.
  • Reporting E&T functional issues.
  • Disseminating information to E&T staff.
  • Supporting E&T staff via Learning and Development plans and Career Management.
  • Assisting with the CASG implementation of Defence Aviation Safety Regulations.
  • Developing, deploying and maintaining engineering governance and assurance requirements.

Supporting the E&T DFL by:

  • Contributing to the strategic direction of the E&T function within CASG.
  • Planning, advocating for, implementing, and facilitating E&T assurance activities.
  • Planning, proposing and promoting your own functional support initiatives based on a combination of CoE requirements, personal experience and your understanding of specific functional needs.
  • Providing functional support and advice to project engineering managers and chief engineers.
  • Developing solutions to functional issues in your location and proposing these to the E&T DFL.
  • Developing and managing functional tools to support Air Domain E&T workforce.
  • Providing insights into CASG Group-level processes and suggesting improvements to meet Air Domain-specific requirements.
  • Developing professional development and mentoring programs for E&T CoE staff in the Newcastle/Sydney area and supporting their coordination and execution.
