Your role

 You're off the US coastline participating in a major multi-national exercise. Battleships surround you and strike aircraft pass overhead. The propulsion and steering systems your team maintains are critical to the manoeuvres your commander is demanding, as your vessel evades a simulated enemy. This is no ordinary engineering challenge.

 As a Marine Engineer you’ll be the technical expert on board your ship, responsible for the repair and maintenance of:

  • the ship's structure
  • propulsion systems
  • electrical generation and distribution
  • electrical conversion equipment
  • domestic and associated mechanical services
  • main and auxiliary machinery
  • engines
  • automatic and remote control systems
  • hydraulics
  • air conditioning and refrigeration, and
  • ventilation systems.

When ashore you will perform duties in support of the fleet including:

  • system specification
  • acquisition and through-life support
  • system certification
  • machinery trials, and
  • the training and management of sailors and officers.
